Can You Hear Me Now? Today's play test suffered from lots of technical difficulties. At first I discovered a rather unpleasant audio problem. I can best describe it as audio crumbling or audio tearing. Imagine that audio is a sheet of paper, now imagine that paper being balled up. This was the first hurdle of the day!
Not Creed's Fault To the best of my knowledge the trouble centers around trying to use an external sound card. Creatives Xmod has never failed me in the past but today it's just not working well. Should I blame the game for being incompatible with my card? I suppose not, or maybe so? This is a gray area the minimum requirements don't mention any trouble with that hardware. Not to worry though I switched to PCI audio instead of USB problem is now solved.
But Wait What If It Is A Bug? It's entirely possible that this is a bug. A quick search on the internet yields at least a handful of links all with people expressing the same problems. Who knows? It's out of scope for me to hardware test for compatibility.
It's No Easy Task Being Robin Hood One of the quirks about Creed is the series of Robin Hood missions you have to perform in order to proceed to your assassination targets. These missions have an interesting bug, after you save the citizen there is a brief cut scene. During this time enemies can approach and attack you. So not only do all these lame scenes slow the action down apparently they can get you killed as well!
Annoying NPC Chatter There are a few characters in the game that just keep giving the same speech over and over. A small crowd gathers around them, and they start talking. At first it's not annoying but if your stuck in that area you might decide to shut them up for good. Well in Assassins Creed that's just not possible. Killing these big mouths just results in them re-spawning later. How annoying :(
Beat The Hell Out Of Anyone Here is a fun fact that probably saved my sanity. It's perfectly acceptable behavior to walk around beating citizens with your fists. Just don't let the guards catch you pulling a weapon, but going bonkers and assaulting people is just fine. In fact nobody will complain about it except the victim.
Strafing Is Absent Here is something glaringly obvious that I just now noticed. You can't strafe in this game! Wow! Can you believe that? Nothing could possibly scream console port louder than this. Should we forgive them for it? No? Well then i guess they fail for not including such a vital game mechanic.
Must I Play Faster? I'm starting to wonder how long it will take to actually beat this game i have 1/9 missions complete and the cut scenes are forcing things to drag out longer than expected. Perhaps I will have to break the review into multiple parts. First impression, second impression, yuk! I am not fond of the idea, but it might end up being that way. Let's keep watching this site and see what happens . . .
